Everyday Makeup Routine For Oily Skin

Step 1 – Prime

It’s so important to use a oil free primer to keep your makeup in place all day, my favourite is the body shops ‘tea tree pore minimiser’ (£8.50)

The L’oreal infallible matte 24 hour foundation (£7.99) stays in place all day and gives amazing natural looking coverage. To apply this I use the real techniques expert face brush (£9.99).

April Favourites

These are a selection of my most used/favourite products in April!

Maybelline Baby Lips in ‘Cherry Me’

I had been desperate to try out the baby lips line for months after reading fantastic reviews, I finally got round to it in April and was not dissapointed. The formula is extremely smooth and moisturising and the colour I got leaves a subtle red tint on the lips. Perfect!

Max Factor ‘Masterpiece’ Mascara

This mascara is fantastic at giving volume, length and separating lashes without clumping. It also lasts all day without flaking or smudging.

Bare Minerals ‘READY’ Foundation

I’ve been using (and loving) the loose powder version for years and when I ran out at the start of the month I decided to give this one a try. It works identically to the original, but seems more convenient and less product is wasted (by me spilling it everywhere!) as it is compact.

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer

I found this when looking for a more affordable dupe of Benefit’s porefessional primer. It works brilliantly at smoothing pores and helping makeup last all day long, and it costs less than half the price of the benefit one, bargain!

Aussie Three Minute Miracle ‘Take The Heat’

I’ve tried this deep conditioner before but rediscovered it this month. It smells divine and leaves my knotty hair smooth and manageable. It also helps to protect against heat styling which is a huge bonus.

Winter Skin Essentials

As much as I love the festive season, it brings about some awful skin issues. So I’m going to share with you products that have worked for me for my hands, feet, body and lips in case any of you endure similar issues.

Hands

My hands always get extremely dry, but the winter makes them 100x worse so it’s vital that i have a good quality hand cream. I’ve tried dozens of creams from brands such as The Body Shop and Nivea but nothing works quite as well as Soap and Glory’s ‘Hand food’. It smells divine, sinks in extremely well and makes my hands feel soft and healthy.

Another quick fix is slathering coconut oil all over your hands and popping on some cotton gloves, then go to bed and voila gorgeous hands in the morning! However, if you don’t own any coconut oil you could follow this as an alternative; http://youniquechic.com/2012/06/home-made-mask-for-soft-hands-and-feet/

Body

My elbows and knees are the bane of my life at this time of year, so i make sure that i use an extremely hydrating moisturizer. My all time favourite is The Body Shop’s ‘coconut body butter’ but I’ve recently been using the ‘daily moisturizing lotion’ by Aveeno and it works amazing! It leaves my skin soft and supple and sinks in quickly so i don’t have to wait to get dressed.

I also love to exfoliate once a week with Soap and Glory’s ‘pulp friction’ to get rid of any dead skin. It smells deliciously fruity and isn’t too harsh on my sensitive skin.

Feet

I haven’t really found a foot cream i swear by yet, but i always use either coconut oil or olive oil once a week before bed and then sleep with cotton socks on. This banishes any hard skin i have, leaving my feet feeling soft and looking great.

Lips

I use this lip scrub once a week to keep my lips in tip top condition; http://youniquechic.com/2011/12/diy-lip-scrub-stop-chapped-lips/

Then i follow up with Vaseline or my mango lip butter from The Body Shop as i find these to be the most hydrating (and affordable) lip balms on the market.

Weekly Favourite

Each week I’m going to tell you about my favourite thing; whether it be a person, product or something else.

My favourite this week is Coconut oil.

Product Image For <br />Pure Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has been an absolute staple in my daily routine; it removes my make up, moisturises my skin and leaves my hair unbelievably soft and healthy.

I got my coconut oil from Holland and Barrett, however I’m sure you’ll be able to find it in similar shop near you.

Top 3 lip balms/butters

I’ve relied on Carmex for many years to keep my lips smooth and crack free. The moisture plus lip balm is absolutely amazing!
It retails for around £4.50 and keeps your lips soft and protected (spf 15) as well as giving it a slight tint and glossy finish, it also smells absolutely amazing. There are a few colours available so there should be one to suit you. Perfect for protecting your lips in these cold winter months.

The Body shop’s lip butters are brilliant, they come in a variety of flavours and smell divine! They melt into your lips, instantly hydrating them and leaving them feeling amazing! Coconut is my absolute favourite, but of course its not for everyone.

Chapstick is also amazing. It is easy to apply, has SPF protection and helps to heal dry and cracked lips.
There is also an amazing variety of flavours available.

DIY lip scrub – stop chapped lips!

Chapped lips are extremely common during the winter months, using a lip scrub once or twice a week can help to remove dead skin cells and prevent this from happening. However, it is not necessary to spend a lot of money on a lip scrub as they are simple to make at home using just a few household items.

To get soft, smooth lips you will need the following items:

1 tsp. natural honey
Small cup
1 tsp. olive oil, sweet almond oil or sunflower oil
2 tsp. granulated white sugar
1 to 2 drops essential oil (optional)
Cotton balls
Moisturiser or lip balm

Step 1:
First get a small, sterile cup and place in 1 tablespoon of natural honey. Warm the honey for around 4 minutes. Honey’s hydrating properties will give you soft lips.

Step 2:
Stir in 1 tablespoon of  oil such as olive oil or sunflower oil, which will create a protective barrier on the lips.

Step 3:
Add in two table spoons of granulated white sugar, this creates a gentle exfoliant which will remove dead skin cells.

Step 4:
Stir in a drop of lemon juice.

Step 5:
At this point you could flavour your lip scrub with mango or lemon flavoured oil.

Step 6:
With clean hands, use your fingertips to apply the scrub to your lips, use gentle circular motions. When you are finished, wipe the scrub off your lips with a damp cotton pad.

Step 7:
Finally, apply your favourite balm or moisturiser.

Using this recipe on a regular basis will stop dry, peeling lips for good!
