Perfumes For Spring/Summer

L’Eau De Rose

The L’eau de rose perfume by Jeanne Arthes is definitely a new favourite of mine, I received it in my February glossybox and have been loving it since. It’s so light and girly and perfect for everyday wear.

‘Representing simple elegance, L’Eau de Rose reflects the sensual and modern woman. A refreshing and sophisticated composition for a classy and stimulating fragrance. A perfume which represents the delicate and seductive woman perfectly – a homage to romance and femininity.’

 RRP: £20.30 for 30ml

Lovestruck

I’d never used a Vera Wang perfume before I received this one for my birthday in February but I’m loving it! It’s the perfect scent for summer evenings as it is quite deep and musky without being too heavy.

‘There’s an instant attraction to the mouth-watering pink guava and mandarin which is followed by a delicate mix of tuberose and lotus blossom.Behind it all, precious woods and sheer musk combine to create a passionate elegance. Vera Wang Lovestruck represents an irresistible romance and captures the feeling of a woman who is struck by love and captivated by passion.’

My Top 3 Face Masks

I absolutely love doing face masks as a little treat to brighten up my skin and have tried out a lot over the past few years! They’re also a lovely thing to buy someone as they come in a variety of prices so you can get one to suit your budget. Here are my top five favourites in no particular order!

Montagne Jeunesse (7th Heaven) Sachets

These are the perfect masks to buy for a little pick me up as they only cost £1 and there are a variety of different types so there’s guaranteed to be one you’ll love! My personal favourite is the dead sea mud pack as I have oily, spot prone skin.

Sanctuary 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask

This mask is amazing for oily/combination skin types as it leaves the skin feeling refreshed and deeply cleansed. The tube costs around £10.50 however if that’s a little too expensive you can get a sachet which will last for two goes for £2.99.

Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask

Every now and then my skin looks dull, lacklustre and needs a boost! This mask is perfect for that as it sinks in within a few minutes and leaves your skin feeling soft and looking bright and healthy. It’s also a great gift idea for someone who is into skincare, however it is slightly more pricey at £16 for a 50ml starter kit including a muslin cloth.

Updated Haircare Routine For Long Hair

I did a haircare routine back in April 2013 but since then most of the products that I used have changed; so I decided to create an updated post informing you how I maintain my long, fine hair.

Shampoo And Conditioner

I tend to switch out my shampoo and conditioner quite a lot, but lately i’ve been using the L’Oreal Elvive Fibrology line and I’m loving it! It makes my hair look so much thicker and volumised whilst still feeling smooth and sleek.

Hair Oil

After running out of my beloved Liz Earle Botanical Shine Nourishing Hair Oil I decided to try out the OGX Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Penetrating Oil as it is slightly more affordable at £6.99 from Boots. It claims to ‘penetrate the hair shaft restoring shine and softness whilst strengthening’ the hair. I’m not 100% sure about the strengthening part as I’ve only used it for a few weeks, but it does make your hair soft, shiny and manageable without leaving any sort of residue. All is spread a small amount (about the size of a 20p piece) throughout the lengths and ends of my damp hair and then  comb it through to distribute. Then when I blow dry my hair it’s left both feeling and looking glorious.

Root Lifting Spray

I recently started to use the Dove Oxygen Moisture Root Lift Spray to add volume to my roots, read what I think about it here.

Heat Protection

I use the Avon advance techniques heat protection styler if I’m going to blow dry, straighten or curl my hair, which isn’t very often. This spray is light, affordable and smells lovely which is always a bonus.

Hair Mask

I use coconut oil weekly to  help keep my hair and scalp healthy. Read about how I use it here.

Brushes

As for brushes I’m still using my tangle teezer which you can read about in my last haircare routine post.  I also use a wide tooth comb when my hair is wet to avoid any unnecessary breakage.

Tips for growing long hair

  • Cut down on washing your hair. I’ve got extremely fine hair and I found this step hard when I was growing out my hair as I always felt like my hair looked so greasy on the second day! Just use some dry shampoo (batiste is my favourite) and try and make the time between washing longer, after a few weeks you’ll start to notice that your hair doesn’t look as greasy on the days after washing and you’ll notice huge amounts of hair growth  after a couple of months, trust me! I only wash my hair twice a week now and it has never been so long and healthy.
  • Do coconut oil hair masks. Coconut oil is absolutely amazing for your hair, saturate both your scalp and ends in it, cover with a shower cap and sleep on it. Yes you’ll look crazy but it’s honestly worth it! When you wake up, shampoo your hair twice and it will be left feeling like silk. It will also help with growth as it’s keeping your scalp healthy too.
  • Stop using hot tools! Using straighteners or curlers on your hair daily makes it brittle and more likely to break, meaning your goal of long hair will never be achieved. I’m not saying never use them, just try and cut it down to once or twice a week.

Tresemme Treatment 7 Day Smooth

The Tresemme 7 day smooth treatment never really appealed to me as I didn’t think that it would do much for my fine hair; however after receiving a sample with a Miss Selfridge order I decided to give it a go.

All you do is apply 8-10 pumps onto towel dried hair, avoiding the scalp, and blow dry. Once your hair is completely dry, straighten it in small sections repeating around 3-5 times on each section. This does make your hair extremely soft and manageable, however it was extremely time consuming to go through all of my long hair. For this reason I don’t think that I would repurchase the treatment as it just isn’t worth it for me as my hair is quite straight anyway, although I can definitely see how it would work brilliantly on coarser, curly hair.

Pamper Night Essentials/Routine

After a long week at work I love to unwind and having an evening to myself to do a face pack and pamper myself is the perfect way to do it!

I start off by removing any makeup i have on with my Olay wipes and then i clean my skin with my Garnier PureActive 3in1 wash, scrub and mask as it targets any blemishes.

I then usually light a candle, at the moment i’m using Glade’s spiced apple and cinnamon which smells amazing!

After this I run my bath and wash my hair, at the moment i’m using Tresseme Keratin Smooth shampoo. Then I apply my deep treatment mask which i leave on my ends for around 10 minutes to soak in. These products leave my hair feeling extremely soft and healthy.

After this I use my Soap&Glory Sugar crush body scrub to leave me feeling smooth and get rid of any dead skin. I then wash my body with my passion fruit shower gel from The Body Shop.

After I’ve shaved my legs using my Gillete venus embrace razor I rinse my hair. Once I’m dry I apply my passion fruit body butter from the Body Shop to keep my skin soft and supple and put on my pyjamas.

My l’occitane shea butter foot cream is fantastic at smoothing any dry patches I have on my feet, so I normally apply it after my bath and put on my cosy socks to help it sink in.

The face mask I use (and love!) at the moment is the Liz Earle Deep Cleansing Mask. It’s great for dealing with oily, spot prone skin without being over drying.

When 10 minutes is up I rinse off the mask and apply my Liz Earle skin repair moisturiser in light and my Boots vitamin e eye cream.

I would then paint and file my nails and once they dry put on my Soap&Glory hand food hand cream.

And that’s all of my pamper night essential products.

My Top 5 Summer Clothing Items

With the recent hot weather we’ve been having in Britain lately I’ve had the chance to get some use out of the summer clothes I usually only get to wear abroad. So I thought I would share with you my favourite pieces this season.

1.Crop Tops

I’ve been loving wearing crop tops with high waisted shorts/pants/skirts, showing about an inch of my midriff. I think this is extremely flattering and is a lot more subtle if you aren’t someone who could walk around with their whole stomach on show. My favourite crop top is my white lace one from Topshop.

2. Coloured Jeans

I absolutely love coloured jeans, they’re a great way to change up your entire style for the summer months without having to make too much effort. They also come in various styles and colours so there’s a pair to suit everyone. My favourite jeans are these coral skinny ones from Marks and Spencer.

3. Casual dresses

I’ve been loving cotton dresses this season as they’re cool, comfortable and easy to throw on when you don’t know what to wear. They also go just as well with sandals as they do with converse, making them extremely versatile. My favourite is this floral one from Primark.

14.7.13

4. Playsuits

Playsuits are a great alternative to a dress or shorts in the summertime and come in a variety of styles. My favorites are my floral one from Republic and my khaki one from Tkmaxx.

8.6.13 11.08.12(1)

5. Eyelet detail

Eyelet detail looks great on tops and dresses and is extremely girly and delicate. My favourite top with this effect is my white one from Tkmaxx.

Easy Hairstyles In Under 5 Minutes

I’m going to share with you my top five hairstyles for those mornings when you don’t have enough time to style your hair and need to get ready and out of the door fast.

All you will need is:

A few bobbles
Clips
Elastic bands (optional)
Hairspray (optional)

#1 Low twisted bun

DSCN1401

Twist the front sections of your hair away from your face, adding in a little more each time and secure at the back of your head. Gather your hair into a low ponytail and twist until a bun forms, then secure with a few clips and spritz with hairspray.

#2 Messy ballerina bun

DSCN1397

Gather all of your hair into a ponytail as high as you like (i find flipping my hair over helps) and secure it in place with a bobble, only pulling the ponytail half through the last time. Then fan out the hair around the bobble and clip down random sections until you get your desired look. Then pull out a few hairs/your fringe to frame your face.

#3 Textured Braid

DSCN1400

Gather your hair into three sections and braid one of them. Then braid the three sections together and secure with an elastic. Pull it gently to loosen and make it look thicker.

#4 Classic French Braid

DSCN1399

Brush back all of your hair and put it into a loose french braid. Then pull out a few sections around the front for a soft, girly vibe.

#5 Voluminous High Ponytail

DSCN1398

You can either back comb your hair or add in a texturising powder such as ‘Osis Dust it’ to give the hair slight volume. Then gather into a ponytail in the middle of your head and secure into place. You can then hide the bobble by wrapping some of the hair around it to give a more chic vibe.
