Furniture can be really expensive and when you move into your first home you definitely don’t have the money to waste. Some things are worth investing a little bit more money into such as your sofa and bed but others can definitely be bought on a budget. This is where amazon came in handy, there are so many stylish pieces at affordable prices.
The first item I wanted to mention was this industrial style Songmics shelf I’ve got in my living room. It’s a great place to store books and DVD’s or even just decorative bits and was a steal at £45.
Another item in my living room is this navy knitted pouffe footstool that adds a little bit of style and extra comfort. It was slightly expensive at £40 but is definitely cheaper than some of the other ones I’ve seen.
After buying my dining table from Next I was stuck for chairs and just wanted something affordable and modern. I looked for quite a while before coming across these grey plastic ones with black metal legs. They came really quickly and are great quality, especially for the price at £44.95.
This Songmics side table I found matches the shelving unit perfectly, is a great place to store a few magazines and adds to the industrial theme throughout my house. It was a great price at £34.99.
With January blues well underway and everywhere still looking bare post Christmas decorations, I thought it would be the perfect time to add a few new bits to breathe some life into my house in time for spring.
Adding some new prints, cushions or a new plant can make a huge difference to your space and the way it feels. I recently ordered this circular shelving unit from Rxhome and thought it was a great way to display some succulents and nick knacks. It would also look great with some tiny wire fairy lights wrapped around.
I also brightened up my fireplace area; which was looking particularly plain; with a yellow patterned vase and this lantern which came with a battery powered candle inside. It adds a really cosy vibe on these horrible dark evenings.
Another update I’m doing throughout the house is filling plain glass vases with fairy lights to brighten up my bathroom and hallway in the evenings since its dark at 4pm! I’ve also ordered this patterned yellow throw to replace the plain navy one on my settee and inject a bit of colour into the room.
I recently moved into my first house and thought I would share with you some of my top picks from IKEA to help you furnish your home on a budget.
This sleek three drawer Hemnes unit is great for storing clothes and is a steel at £115. There are other sizes available too if you need slightly more or less storage.
Hemnes dressing table
I’ve never owned a dressing table before and didn’t want to spend a fortune so decided to go for the matching Hemnes one for £125 (usually £150 but was discounted with my IKEA family card). I also got the matching ‘tinius’ stool for £20.
Hovslund rugThis grey printed rug for £55 is definitely on my wish list. It would go perfectly under our dining table and add more texture to a plain room.
Brunsta pendant lamp shade
I got the large version of this lampshade for £18 for our hallway and the smaller one for £12 for our upstairs landing; I love how modern and affordable they are.
Fasalt swivel armchair
Mustard yellow features a lot in our house and this swivel armchair would add a great pop of colour to the living room. It retails at £450 which is quite pricey compared to the other items but is such a statement piece.
This sideboard would be perfect in a hallway or dining room and looks a lot more expensive than it is at £350.
The ‘Nostalgia’ box is finally here and contains five lovely makeup products!
The first thing I got was this gorgeous shimmery baked blush from Karl Lagerfield + ModelCo which gives an amazing natural looking glow.
RRP: Glossybox early exclusive so not known yet.
A tube of SPF15 strawberry Carmex was also included which is one of my favourite lip balms.
The AFFECT matte effect transparent loose rice powder was the next product I recieved. It’s made with a combination of mica and rice starch to give a perfect matte finish; even to oily skin.
The Modellauncher ‘Savanna Sun’ Bronzer has definitely became a firm staple in my makeup bag. It suits my skin tone perfectly as it’s warm without being orange to give you a natural sun-kissed look; it’s also waterproof which is great for the summertime.
I’ve never tried out anything from Eyeko before but am really impressed with this Fat Liquid Eyeliner in black. It gives the most flawless thin line in seconds and stays in place all day.
This month has definitely got to be my favourite Glossybox yet. The first thing I saw in the box was this LUE by Jean Seo Erase (Full size RRP: £11) which is a powder that claims to cleanse, exfoliate and brighten tired looking skin; my face would definitely benefit from this at the moment.
A Laura Geller Easy Illuminating Stick in the shade Ballerina (Full Size RRP:£19) was also included this month and I absolutely love it. It leaves the most gorgeous bronze glow to your skin and is so easy to use as it’s in stick form.Next up is a lipstick from Oryza Beauty in ‘Warm Nude’ (Full Size RRP: £15.95) which is extremely hydrating and promises to suit all skin tones. This Figs and Rouge soft focus pore perfect HD+ matte veil (Full Size RRP: £35) was also included this month. It’s designed to blur pores, reduce shine and combat breakouts; it’s going to be perfect for the summer months.A 20ml sample size of the Mudmasky Sleep Repair Renewal Nourishing Mask was the fifth and final thing in the box. It’s an overnight moisturiser which leaves skin smooth and rejuvenated with a light rose scent.
I’ve really missed receiving a glossybox each month so was overjoyed that I got given a subscription for my birthday! As usual its filled with five lovely products I can’t wait to try. This gorgeous ‘vintage romance’ palette from Sleek (RRP £8.99) was the first thing I got, it contains 12 colours which will cover you from day to night. Ciate nail polishes have always been a favourite of mine so I know I’m going to love this one in ‘racing queen’ (RRP £6). This Steve Laurent lip gloss in ‘Nude Pop’ (RRP £17) is going straight in my handbag. It leaves a gorgeous tint to the lips and the rose gold packaging is so luxurious.I’m really looking forward to using this Skin Chemists London 24-Hour Aqua Repair Facial Serum (RRP £64) which is is formulated to soothe and hydrate the skin for all day moisture. Also included is Studio 10 Beauty’s Makeup Mist Glow-Plexion (Travel size £14) which instantly primes, refreshes and hydrates dull, lacklustre skin. It can also be used as a makeup setting spray.
I’m so done with lugging around loads of unnecessary things in my bag so I’ve had a huge clear out. Apart from the obvious essentials such as my purse and phone I’ve narrowed it down to these six items.
My Lips have been extremely chapped lately and nothing seems to soothe them other than good old Carmex! A definite must have.
I always carry around a hand cream as my hands get so dry this time of year, I’m currently using The Body Shop’s mango one which smells good enough to eat.
When travelling on public transport hand sanitiser is a life saver. This Merci Handy cherry one is my favourite.
I’d be lost without my headphones and this Skullcandy pair come with a little faux leather pouch meaning they don’t get tangled up in your handbag.
I take my tangle teezer everywhere to keep my hair in check.
A roll on perfume is perfect for touch ups throughout the day and this Zara one in the scent ‘cashmere rose’ smells divine.
I’ve been going through a horrible phase with my skin over the last few months, suffering from a dry scaly texture and painful acne all along my jaw line. Nothing I tried would make any difference, even products which have helped in the past. I decided to try out the Avene skincare range as it had some really positive reviews online and was on 3 for 2 in Boots at the time.
For the first few weeks of use my skin seemed to get drier and drier until all of my spots had cleared up but it still had a horrible bumpy texture. I decided to try the serum from the range underneath the light hydrating cream and this definitely made a difference, all of the products seem to work together to keep my skin balanced and healthy yet help to combat any spots I get.
Firstly I cleanse my face using the cleanance cleansing gel (£11) to remove any dirt and left over makeup.
Then I tone using the cleanance mattifying lotion(£11) on a cotton pad to tighten my pores and remove any left over grime.
Next I massage in the hydrance optimal serum (£17) and the soothing eye contour cream (£9.50) which keep my skin hydrated and glowing.
If i’m doing my morning skincare routine I apply the hydrance optimale light with SPF 20 (£14.50) on top of the serum which helps to protect my face from sun damage.
I also exfoliate twice a week using the gentle exfoliating gel (£13) to remove any dry skin and leave my skin looking bright and healthy.
