Easy Hairstyles In Under 5 Minutes

I’m going to share with you my top five hairstyles for those mornings when you don’t have enough time to style your hair and need to get ready and out of the door fast.

All you will need is:

A few bobbles
Clips
Elastic bands (optional)
Hairspray (optional)

#1 Low twisted bun

DSCN1401

Twist the front sections of your hair away from your face, adding in a little more each time and secure at the back of your head. Gather your hair into a low ponytail and twist until a bun forms, then secure with a few clips and spritz with hairspray.

#2 Messy ballerina bun

DSCN1397

Gather all of your hair into a ponytail as high as you like (i find flipping my hair over helps) and secure it in place with a bobble, only pulling the ponytail half through the last time. Then fan out the hair around the bobble and clip down random sections until you get your desired look. Then pull out a few hairs/your fringe to frame your face.

#3 Textured Braid

DSCN1400

Gather your hair into three sections and braid one of them. Then braid the three sections together and secure with an elastic. Pull it gently to loosen and make it look thicker.

#4 Classic French Braid

DSCN1399

Brush back all of your hair and put it into a loose french braid. Then pull out a few sections around the front for a soft, girly vibe.

#5 Voluminous High Ponytail

DSCN1398

You can either back comb your hair or add in a texturising powder such as ‘Osis Dust it’ to give the hair slight volume. Then gather into a ponytail in the middle of your head and secure into place. You can then hide the bobble by wrapping some of the hair around it to give a more chic vibe.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is an absolute necessity to me as i’m quite lazy when it comes to my hair and try to wash it the least amount i possibly can without being completely disgusting. Although this is essentially quite a good habit to get into as it improves hair health, it can be an absolute disaster if i don’t use a good dry shampoo to banish any oil from my roots.

After trying out dozens of dry shampoos from various brands, i can honestly say that Batiste dry shampoo in ‘Blush’ works the most effectively. It removes all of the excess oil from my hair without leaving any sort of residue (and i’m a brunette) whilst giving a fresh, subtle, floral scent. It also doesn’t dry out my hair and washes out extremely easily.

The price ranges from around £2-4 depending on where you get it.

Weekly Favourite

Each week I’m going to tell you about my favourite thing; whether it be a person, product or something else.

My favourite this week is Charles Worthington Front Row Rough and Tousled Salt Spray.

When I was abroad I loved the effect the sea had on my hair, so when I returned back to England I wanted to find something that would do the same thing. After searching through a lot of reviews I came across Charles Worthington’s Front Row Rough and Tousled Salt Spray and thought I would give it a try.

I’ve been using it almost every day since; all I do is spray it through damp hair, tie it up into a messy bun and wait until it dries. Then viola; gorgeous, wavy, natural looking hair.

It also only costs £5.49 at Boots which is great as you don’t need to use a lot.

Have any of you tried it? What are your thoughts?

Top 5 Summer Essentials

I’m going to share with you 5 of my absolute essential skin and hair care items for these hot summer months.

Lipbalm

My lips always get extremely dry and cracked during the summer, so I always make sure that I use a good quality lip balm with SPF in it to not only stop them getting chapped, but to protect them from the sun too.

One of my favourites at the moment is Carmex cherry lip balm as it lasts for ages on my lips, smells amazing and has SPF 15.

Sunscreen

It’s also extremely important to protect your skin from the sun, so I use Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock.

I’ve got a review of this here.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is absolutely brilliant. It can be used as a hair mask twice a week to help promote healthy growth and leaves your hair feeling so soft! All you do is apply it from root to tip, then leave it for at least half an hour and wash it out. It’s also a brilliant moisturiser to use on those drier areas such as your elbows and knees.

Light Moisturiser

Having oily skin in the summertime is awful, it just seems to look ten times worse. However, changing my moisturiser during the summer to Neutrogena’s visibly clear oil free moisturiser helps to stop my skin getting as shiny throughout the day. The extremely light formula also helps to prevent breakouts.

BB cream

BB cream is a great alternative to foundation during the summer as it covers up any imperfections whilst still being extremely lightweight and natural looking. I use Garnier’s BB cream, you can find a review here.

I hope i’ve given you some tips or ideas.

My most used..

Everyone has those few staple items which they really couldn’t replace, despite how many new things they buy. For example; a bag which goes with every outfit, or a pair of extremely comfortable shoes.

I’m going to show you my all time favourite items, from clothes to make up.

My most used:

Lipstick

This lipstick is amazing, it is extremely moisturising and gives your lips the perfect subtle peachy/orange colour. It is from Avon and is in the shade ‘silky peach’.

Foundation

I use this mineral foundation on a daily basis. It gives an extremely natural look as if you aren’t wearing foundation at all, whilst still covering  your imperfections. Mine is in the shade ‘fairly light’.

 Blusher

This blusher is from The Body Shop and is in the shade ’01 Petal’. It’s absolutely brilliant and gives even the dullest skin an instant, natural looking glow.

Nail Polish

I love this coral coloured nail polish from Collection 2000. The shade (‘fruit salad’) is perfect for summer and lasts for a long time.

Perfume

I honestly couldn’t choose a favourite between these two perfumes, they both smell amazing! Loverdose by Diesel is quite a strong scent, whereas Elizabeth Arden’s Sunflowers is light, fresh and perfect for everyday wear.

Hair product

This leave in conditioner from Avon is a life saver, it makes my hair so soft and lasts for three washes. I apply it once a week to the ends of my hair after showering and it helps to prevent split ends and keeps my hair looking and feeling healthy.

Moisturiser

The Body Shop’s coconut body butter is absolutely brilliant; it smells amazing, sinks in really well and keeps my skin so soft.

Earrings

These earrings are my absolute favourite;  they go with everything and are the perfect size. Unfortunately, I’m not sure where they’re from as they were a birthday gift.

Bag

I got this bag from H&M last year and I haven’t stopped wearing it since. It’s a really good size and allows me to carry just the right amount.

Shoes

These shoes go with everything and are extremely comfortable. They were a bargain too; I got them for £10 from Madhouse.

Coat

I wear this coat from from House of Fraser constantly; the leather is so soft and it is extremely flattering. It was a little bit pricey originally, however I got it on sale for £100 from £275 .

Home Made Mask For Soft Hands And Feet

With the summer holidays fast approaching I thought I would share my secret on how to prevent dry, cracked feet and ensure they are sandal ready! This mask will also keep your hands extremely soft and is easy and cheap too!

All you will need is:

  • Olive Oil
  • A pair of socks (or two if you’re planning on doing both your hands and feet with the mask)
  • Salt
Here’s how to do it:
1) Wash your hands/feet and remove any nail polish if you want to achieve the best results.
2) Pour two tablespoons of olive oil into a small bowl and then add a tablespoon of salt and mix them together.
3) Apply the mixture onto your hands/feet and rub on in circular motions focusing on the driest areas.
4) Rinse off the mixture with warm water.
5) Onto dry hands/feet, apply a thin layer of olive oil and massage it in.
6) Put the socks onto your hands/feet and relax and let the oil sink in. You should leave these on for 15 minutes at least, however I find it works best and is more convenient for me to do it overnight.
7) If you aren’t leaving the socks on overnight, remove the socks and rinse off the oil with warm water when you feel it has been on long enough and you’ll feel how soft and smooth your skin is straight away. Your nails will also look healthy and glowing.
Doing this once a week or whenever you feel your hands/feet need it will really help you to maintain soft healthy skin. This mask is extremely easy to do and can be done whilst you sleep; so there is no excuse not to try it!

Miracle Olive Oil Hair Mask

Everyone wants soft, shiny hair, however this can be quite difficult to achieve due to horrible weather and using heated appliances on a regular basis. Like most of us, I’ve tried various home remedies and spent a fortune on products that don’t even work attempting to banish frizz and achieve healthy hair. Little did I know that the one ingredient I would need was sitting in my cupboard all along.

Olive oil is a brilliant treatment for dry, unruly hair of any length. It’s also really simple to do which is always a plus!
Here’s how you do it:
1) Apply the olive oil to the lengths and ends of dry hair until you feel it is saturated enough.
2) Use the oil left on your hands and massage it into the roots of your hair. This will be enough if you have quite thin hair, however if your hair is thicker you can add slightly more.
3) Put your hair up in a bun or clip it back so it is out of your face and leave for at least 30 minutes, I find it works best after about an hour.
4) Rinse out the olive oil and wash and condition your hair as normal, you will notice how much softer and easier to comb through it is.
5) Style your hair as normal.
Using this mask once a week will help to maintain healthy hair and improve its strength. You could also heat the oil up, apply it as normal and then cover your hair with a shower cap and leave for 30 minutes for extra nourishment if your hair is in really bad shape.

Review: Lush ‘New’ Solid Shampoo bar

I’ve never really been a big fan of Lush, it’s quite expensive and I could never justify buying any of their products when I knew I could find cheaper ones elsewhere. However, a few weeks ago I purchased the ‘New’ solid shampoo bar. I have to admit I was slightly sceptical to use it due to the mix of both good and bad reviews, but after hearing about how it gives your hair shine whilst stimulating hair growth, I decided to give it a go.

It works perfectly, it definitely makes my hair really clean and shiny, though I’m not sure about the growth as I have only been using it for a few weeks. I thought the shampoo was going to really awkward to use and would not spread throughout my hair easily, but it foams brilliantly after using a tiny amount. I would really recommend  buying the tin you can get for £2.50 too as it will make it last a lot longer. You should also wait until the soap is completely dry before putting it into the tin. I dry mine by standing it on its side, but it dries pretty quickly so don’t let that put you off.

The soap also claims to minimise the amount of hair loss, this is 100% true. After using it for a few times I’m having at least half of the hair loss I had before I began using it, so I would really recommend this to you if your noticing a lot of hair in your brush after styling your hair. Although the bar smells quite strong, I can assure you that the smell does not linger in your hair after you rinse, it just smells clean and fresh.

The only flaw I have noticed is that it can be quite drying if it is over used, however this can be prevented by using a good conditioner and a hair mask once or twice a week. You could use a hair mask such as Herbal Essences beautiful ends split end protection intensive mask.

I would really recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a new shampoo, it is really worth the £5.00 as it lasts much longer than most bottled shampoos.

Review : Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Split End Protection Intensive Mask

I’ve been using this treatment for months and can honestly say that it has worked wonders on my hair.
I’ve always suffered from split ends and contrary to popular belief, nothing can get rid of them but a good haircut.

This product does not seal up split ends; however it makes hair extremely smooth and sleek which seems to disguise the dry, split ends and make your hair look extremely shiny. The mask makes hair a lot healthier, which in the long run will prevent new split ends from forming. It also smells divine, which is always a plus!

I apply this product twice a week in the shower after shampooing my hair, leave it in for five minutes, then rinse it out. It really is that simple to have gorgeous looking hair! The product is also on sale at http://www.boots.com at the minute, costing only £2.03 instead of £4.07 so now would be a perfect opportunity to try it for yourself!
